Kitchen or room in the wrong direction? You don't have to rebuild.
Moving a kitchen, knocking down a wall or shifting a toilet is rarely possible once a home is built, especially in a flat or a rented place. Traditional Vastu has always had a second track for exactly this: remedies that work with what you already have — colors, placement, lighting, small corrective items — not construction. Fixes that don't touch a single wall
Also worth doing, whatever the room:
- A small Vastu pyramid or copper yantra placed in the corner said to be at fault is a common low-cost, non-structural adjustment.
- Keep the actual North-East corner of the whole home — not just this room — clean, light and uncluttered. It is treated as the most sensitive zone and a tidy North-East is said to soften problems elsewhere in the house.
- Sea salt in a small open bowl, changed every few weeks, is a traditional low-cost remedy for a room that feels "heavy".
- Fix leaking taps, broken switches and stuck doors promptly — in Vastu practice, things that don't work properly are treated as their own small dosha.
The kitchen specifically: it's usually the one room nobody can move
A kitchen means fixed plumbing and gas lines, so relocating it is a full renovation, not a weekend fix. If yours is stuck in a direction other than South-East or North-West, the traditional workaround focuses on the stove itself, not the room: keep the stove and sink apart (fire and water are treated as opposing elements), cook facing East even if the room's orientation is fixed, and add warm colors (orange, red, rust) around the cooking area specifically rather than the whole kitchen. Many practitioners also suggest a small inverted copper pyramid or a Vastu correction plate fixed above the stove, and keeping a bowl of rock salt in the North-East corner of the kitchen itself, changed weekly.
