How do I find my directions?
- Open the compass on your phone and stand near the center of your home.
- Note where North is, then use the 3×3 grid: the top is North, the right is East.
- For each room, tap the direction from the center of the house where that room lies.
- For the main door, tap the direction the door faces when you stand outside looking at the house.

Main entrance
Which direction does your main door face?
The main door is where energy enters the home. North, North-East and East get gentle morning light and are considered most auspicious.
Simple remedies
- Keep the door well lit, clean and easy to open, with no clutter or shoe racks blocking it.
- Hang a toran (door garland) or place a nameplate in a clear, readable spot.
- Add plants or a pair of lamps on either side of the entrance.

Where is your living room?
A living room in the North, North-East or East stays bright and welcoming. South-West is better used for heavier, quieter rooms.

Kitchen
Where is your kitchen?
The kitchen holds the fire element, so the South-East (the fire corner) is ideal, with North-West second. A kitchen in the North-East mixes fire with the water corner.

- Place the stove in the South-East part of the kitchen and face East while cooking.
- Keep the sink (water) away from the stove (fire), ideally on the North-East side of the kitchen.

The South-West is the heaviest, most stable corner and is traditionally best for the head of the household. The North-East and South-East are considered too active or too fiery for rest.

- Place the bed against the South or West wall with your head toward South (or East).
- Keep heavy furniture in the South-West of the room and keep the North-East light.
- Avoid mirrors facing the bed and keep electronics away from the bedside.
- Use calm earthy colors such as beige, peach or soft brown.
Children's bedroom
Where is the children's room?
The West and North-West suit growing children, supporting activity and change. The North-East is best kept free for prayer and study rather than sleep.

The West is the classic direction for dining, and placing it beside the kitchen is convenient.

Staircases are heavy and best in the South, South-West or West. Avoid the North-East, which should stay light and open.
