Nandita Das was born on 7th November 1969 in New Delhi, India. Her father is a painter Jatin Das, who was from Orissa and her mother Varsha Das is a writer.
She taught at the Rishi Valley School (started by J. Krishnamurti). After she did her Master's in Social Work (MSW), she started working with an NGO called Ankur and then for Alarippu, a children's organisation which is about making education more enjoyable for children from underprivileged homes. She also got her bachelor's degree in Geography.
She went to Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in New Delhi. She received her bachelor's degree in Geography from Miranda House and Post Graduation from the Delhi School of Social Work.
She has debut in Hindi cinema with a controversy film Fire in 1998, which was based on a lesbian relationship. She says that the scenes and situations in Fire were not created to titillate. Rather, she clarifies that the character in Fire enters a lesbian relationship only due to circumstances. The young actress says she has no regrets doing the film. As a director, she is known for her directorial debut Firaaq (2008), which has won a number of national and international awards.
Nandita Das’ directorial debut Firaaq is about the aftermath of the Gujarat riots scanning the lives of different people in one day. At the Asian First Film Festival, it won two awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay.
She married Soumya Sen in 2002.The couple divorced in 2009.
She is scorpio.Her lucky numbers are 2,7,9 and 27. While blue and green are favourable color for her.During this year, she will find it easy to make social contacts, which might bring more work for her. Her approach will be restful and easy-going, and she will refuse to feel pressurized to conform to others' expectation. Current year would be encouraging for her.
