Kareena was born to Sindhi-speaking Babita (nee Shivdasani) and Punjabi-speaking Randhir Kapoor on September 21, 1977 in Bombay, India. She has an elder sister, Karisma.
She made her debut in the year 2000 through J.P. Dutta's war drama Refugee against Abhishekh Bachchan.Refugee was the fifth-highest grossing film in India in 2000, and her performance earned her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
Kareena Kapoor is considered a loud-mouth gasconading actress, but yet still manages to have a lucrative career in Bollywood. Her fair skin, medium-light eyes, and hennaed hair makes her a favorite amongst the Indian audience. She is part Punjabi and part Sindhi. Her mother Babita and aunt Sadhana were both Bollywood actresses. Kareena is said to resemble a young Babita, with her full-figured body, and plump lips. Kareena Kapoor's name was recently announced for India Today Woman Award 2009. Now, the Rotary Club has honoured Kareena Kapoor with vocational Excellence Award for being the youngest achiever of the film industry.
