People face a number of problems in different spheres of their lives, everyday.
Every one wants to lead a life that is full of health, wealth and prosperity. “Stuck
in your career? Trouble in your love life? The root of your problems may be in the
design of your home, say practitioners of the ancient Chinese philosophy, feng shui.”
"Feng Shui teaches us how to create harmony and balance around us," Feng" means
"wind" and "shui" means "water" (pronounced fung-shway). In Chinese culture gentle
wind and clear water have been associated with good harvest and good health.
Every one wants to lead a life that is full of health, wealth and prosperity. There
is one age-old and creditable study throws light over the environmental effect on
mankind's life. Feng Shui, affects man's life path, along with other significant
factors like astrology and destiny. Feng shui can be termed as a belief as well
as a science of arrangement of objects around us.
History Of Feng Shui
Feng Shui is as old as the hills and that is literally where it originated! From
the mountainous south western region of China during the Han Dynasty (200 B.C. -
200 A.D.), the earliest known records of Feng Shui can be established. Feng Shui
is also known, as Kanyu is the art of placing and situating a building so that it
is in harmony with its surroundings. According to Feng Shui cultural and social
issues are influenced by natural, metaphysical and cosmological factors. To practically
use Feng Shui one needs to understand the influence of cosmology on earth, should
have a knowledge of how astronomy and astrology influence the placing of buildings,
understand the Confucian classic, understand the weathering process and understand
the forces of nature acting on buildings and their surroundings. The theories of
yin and yang, as well as the five feng shui elements, are some of the basic aspects
of a feng shui analysis that come from Taoism.
Foundation theories
The goal of feng shui as practiced today is to situate the human built
environment on spots with good qi. The "perfect spot" is a location and an axis
in time.
Qi (ch'i)
Ch'i or qi (pronounced "chee" and henceforth spelled "chi") is the Chinese
word used to describe "the natural energy of the Universe." This energy, though
called "natural," is spiritual or supernatural, and is part of a metaphysical, not
an empirical, belief system. New Agers often refer to this energy as subtle energy.
Chi is thought to permeate all things, including the human body. Such metaphysical
systems are generally referred to as types of vitalism. One of the key concepts
related to chi is the concept of harmony. Trouble, whether in the universe or in
the body, is a function of disharmony, of things being out of balance and in need
of restoration to equilibrium.
Chi can be broken up into several components. The two main categories are
(I) Yin
and Yang (II) the Five Elements.
